Florence Bowden

Miss Florence Bowden of Shiloh, NJ was the 1972 recipient of the Robe of Achievement award. She was a classroom teacher and supervisor in Bridgeton, NJ and for 26 years served as Cumberland County Helping Teacher. She took advanced courses at Columbia University following her graduation from Alfred University. She taught summer session classes at New York University and Glassboro State College. In 1953 a series of English text books Florence co-authored were published by MacMillian Company.

Florence was a member of the training team for SCSC in Dallas, TX for several years. She led the program for students’ wives at the Center for Ministerial Education in Plainfield, NJ as well as that for minister’s wives at the 1970 Missionary Pastors Institute in Westerly, RI. She served as a special dedicated worker in Ashaway, RI, Battle Creek, MI, Daytona Beach, FL, Los Angeles, CA, Marlboro, NJ, Plainfield, NJ Shiloh, NJ and Plainfield, NY. She was also an active member of the Publications Committeeof the American Sabbath Tract Society.

In her home church Florence taught the Willing Workers Sabbath School class starting in 1957 and serves on the Belevolent Society’s program committee. She lead worship programs at Jersey Oaks Camp and routinely offered her home and a listening ear to people of all ages.
