Marjorie Burdick in the Robe of Achievement

Miss Marjorie Burdick was baptized and joined the Farina, IL church in 1910. She graduated from Milton Academy in 1915 and then Milton College in 1919. After her graduation from college she moved to New Market, NJ and began teaching in the public schools there. She attended summer school at the University of WI in 1920.

During her years teaching Marjorie developed an interest in the summer camping program as a vital religious experience for young people. This lead to her being actively involved in establishing the first Seventh Day Baptist Camp, Lewis Camp in Rhode Island. She was the first camp director at Lewis Camp and continued in that capacity for 6 years. She was also the supervisor of the interdenominational Bible Schools in Plainfield, NJ for several years.

She attended Boston University and acquired a Masters degree in the field of religious education. She served as president of the Seventh Day Baptist Young People’s Board from 1930-1931. She was also an integral part of churches in Lansing and Kalamazoo, MI in their department of religious education.

She moved back to Milton, WI to care for her aging parents and secured a teaching position there.

She served young people in Milton in many ways. She taught in the primary department of the Milton Sabbath School. She also was a deaconess in Milton and sang in the church choir. She taped services and took them to the local sick and shut-ins so they could listen. She also took these tapes to the Caravilla Retirement home for anyone who wanted to listen and it became a regular Wednesday night service for anyone who wanted to attend.

She was also a member of the Womens Board and donated one of her rooms for use as an office.
