Anna C North began life in Shanghai, China in 1901 the daughter to missionaries. She grew up in China, only returning to the States for her college education. She graduated from Alfred University and returned to China until 1929 and then taught Latin in the Michigan school system. She earned her masters degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1935.
Anna served in her local church in Plainfield, NJ (where her husband took was the manager of the Recorder Press). She was superintendent of the Sabbath School there, a member of the diaconate for over 10 years and the church clerk for 11 years. She also served many years on the Board of the Salvation Army in Plainfield. She also had the distinction of representing the church as a delegate to the Association of Religious Organizations, where she gave leadership in organizing the Learning for Life Department focusing attention on senior citizens.
Anna served the Eastern Association as treasurer for over 23 years. She was a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Sabbath Tract Society for 24 years and for several years was the chairman of the Publications Committee which was responsible for authorizing new tracts and books. In 1967 when her husband retired form the Ministerial Retirement Committee Anna was elected to the position.
She was interested in ecumenical affairs she represented Seventh Day Baptists since 1943 when she was elected recording secretary of the Plainfield Federation of Women’s Societies. In 1955 she was elected president of the organization when it’s name was changed to the Council of Church Women and she served for 4 years. She represented SDB’s on a state and national level of Church Women United. She was elected to the National Board of Managers in 1957-1962. She also held several state offices in this organization including treasurer (1966-69), recording secretary (1974-1977), and historian (1972-1975).
